Cleantech Law Partners announces today that leading renewable energy attorney Joshua Nathan has joined the firm. Josh is a seasoned clean energy lawyer with over 25 years of experience representing manufacturers, EPC contractors, service providers and developers in the construction, technology and clean energy sectors. Josh has consulted wind, solar, biomass and real estate companies in a wide range of projects. Since 2000, he has held the position of General Counsel for Vestas American Wind Technology, Acciona Energy North America and Third Planet Windpower, LLC -- leading teams that developed and built more than 4000 megawatts of clean energy projects. Josh provides invaluable counsel to developers and manufacturers on wind, biomass, and solar projects around the U.S. and negotiated international cooperation agreements worldwide. His recent work as a legal consultant has led to the successful completion of more than 950 megawatts of clean energy generation across North and South America. Carolyn a veteran energy law attorney with more than 25 years of experience in advising on energy and utility transactional matters, and participating in and litigating energy cases before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), state commissions and trial and appeals courts throughout the country. Prior to founding her own firm in 1993 Carolyn worked as an attorney-advisor at FERC and as an attorney at several national energy practices in Washington D.C. CLP Attorney Diane Henkels presented results from the Oregon and Washington state legislative sessions at SolWest in John Day, Oregon. The Eastern Oregon Renewable Energies Association (EORenew) presents SolWest Fair annually the last full weekend in July. EORenew was founded in 1998, a nonprofit educational organization whose mission is to empower people to increase their energy efficiency and use of solar, wind, and other renewables. At SolWest Diane noted that in Oregon energy conservation efforts remained strong, especially in comparison to weakened state support for renewable energy in the form of tax credits. She also discussed the regulatory situation in Washington, where the legislature enacted a new law aimed at decreasing the dependency on coal as a source for electrical power.

New York: CLP attorney, Jon Norling gave a presentation on the State and Federal regulations applicable to renewable energy resources and distributed generation during an event organized by the NY Bar Association. The program brought together experts to discuss federal and New York State energy regulation, relevant energy and environmental regulatory requirements, and exemptions from regulation that renewable energy and distributed generation resources typically enjoy. Mr. Norling offered perspectives on pending legislation and regulations that are likely to affect the renewable industry in the future, and led participants through the steps of putting a renewable energy deal together. It suggests that as the scale of engineering grows, an array of fresh legal considerations will come into play for wind projects, which already have to clear a huge number of obstacles, from land-use laws to airspace regulations.
