Australia Announces Plans for Six Offshore Windfarms


Australia, which currently has no offshore wind generation, has decided to take advantage of the abundance of wind surronding the country to harness it for renewable energy purposes.   Recent legislation has enabled the funding of offshore wind farms, previously considered too expensive to build.  The Labor government plans to generate 82% of Australia’s energy from renewable sources by 2030.  Per Energy Minister, Chirs Bowen,  until now, Australia was “way behind the rest of the world” in generating wind power.  This is a step in the right direction for the generation of renewable energy for Australia.
