The new electricity tariff that took effect from July 1 is designed to encourage the exploration and use of renewable energy sources among non-domestic users, the Dewan Rakyat was told.
Deputy Energy Transition and Water Transformation Minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir said the revised tariff structure aims to reflect the actual cost of electricity supply and promote sustainability by providing a fair and equitable platform for participation among non-domestic users.
He said this change is expected to drive interest and investment in renewable energy (RE) sources, contributing to Malaysia’s goal of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
