Egypt Plans to Commission 3 GW solar and 600 MW BESS Capacity in 2026


The Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy of Egypt has announced that it will add 3 GW of new solar energy capacity in 2026, plus 600 MW of battery energy storage capacity before summer, increasing total grid-linked storage capacity to 1.1 GW (Egyptian government statement, 15/02/2026). Egypt’s Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy made the announcement amid expected 6% to 7% demand growth on the national grid during the coming summer months.

Egypt targets a 42% renewable energy share in its power mix by 2030.
