Experience

Andrew Herndon is a legal intern for Cleantech Law Partners. Before assisting CLP, he worked for more than 5 years as a data researcher, analyst, and journalist focused exclusively on renewable energy finance and project development. Andrew began his career in 2008 in the Washington, D.C. metro area with New Energy Finance Ltd., a London-based provider of insight, data, and news for decision makers driving change in the energy system. In 2010, after the research firm was acquired by Bloomberg LP in 2009, he relocated to the company’s San Francisco news bureau and transitioned to reporting full-time as the only member of his team on the West Coast.

Andrew specialized in clean energy technologies ranging from solar, wind, and geothermal to advanced biofuels, energy storage, and carbon-capture. He primarily reported on utility-scale project financing, power purchase agreements, tax equity structures, and venture capital transactions with a focus on the Canadian and U.S. markets. Andrew’s feature stories detailed innovative financing techniques ranging from property tax liens that support energy efficiency upgrades at buildings to securitization of rooftop solar energy portfolios. He also investigated online platforms for reducing solar customer acquisition costs, proposals for opening real estate investment trusts to renewable energy, and the emergence of the “yieldco” as a corporate entity.

Andrew holds B.A. degrees in International Relations and History from the University of Pennsylvania, and he is currently pursuing his J.D. degree at Santa Clara University School of Law. He expects to graduate in 2016.
